Bloc10 Bouldering Approved for New Stirling Climbing Gym

Planning permission granted for the bouldering chain's third Scottish site

Planning Permission Granted

Bloc10 Bouldering has been given the green light to open a third Scottish climbing gym, this time in Stirling. Stirling Council granted planning application Stirling/26/00248/FUL on 10 July 2026, approving a change of use from industrial (Class 4) to an indoor climbing facility (Class 11) at the former Thornbridge Timber unit — known as the Stirling Wood Centre — on Forth Street in the city's Riverside area.

Bloc10 already runs bouldering-only gyms in Dundee and Aberdeen. Stirling would be its third site, and its first in the Forth Valley.

What's Planned

  • Around 500 sqm of climbing surface, with artificial walls and padded mats — bouldering only, no ropes or harnesses.
  • A fitness area, changing rooms, toilets and a reception, plus a snack bar (protein bars and refreshments) and a shop selling bouldering equipment.
  • 25 car parking spaces and bicycle parking.
  • Proposed opening hours of 10am–10pm on weekdays and 10am–6pm at weekends, seven days a week — with around 100 visitors expected per day.
  • Events, children's parties, workshops and lessons, in line with Bloc10's existing Dundee and Aberdeen sites.

When Will It Open?

There's no confirmed opening date yet. Planning permission is one step — fit-out of the unit typically follows, and can take anywhere from a few weeks to a few months depending on the scope of work. Neither Bloc10's website nor its social channels had announced a Stirling opening at the time of writing. We'll update this post once a date is confirmed.

Stirling already has one indoor climbing venue, The Peak at Stirling Sports Village. A second, bouldering-focused option would be a genuine first for the city.
